News-feeds provided (03.01.2008)
The website now also offers news-feeds. The feeds are provided in english and german language. To ease
classification, the feeds are separeted into categories.
The news-feeds are intended to replace the newsletter support for the freeware programs in the near future because
- Newsletters via email are getting more and more unpopular due to spamming. The malpractice of entering
third party email addresses into the fields intended for subscribing newsletters is leading to many complaints
each time a newsletter is sent. Sorting out all of the fake email addresses is getting an increasing
problem.
- Implementing the double-opt-in procedure will not help to solve the problem, because the confirmation mail
requested from third parties will lead to complaints as well.
- Often the registration is done using email addresses from freemail services (e.g. gmx or yahoo).
These email addresses are used to be entered at many sites, thus leading to popularity and increasing spam.
Once such an email address is discontinued and the provider deleted the account, a reply will follow notifying
an invalid address. Some former members already asked me why they do no more receive notifications
of new program versions. Mostly a deleted freemail account was the reason.
- Some email accounts are protected by software, requesting an individual confirmation to allow the email
to pass. Often the email must be sent twice within a specified period of time or a given link
must be clicked.
The expediture of time processing the returns for each newsletter transmission is no more acceptable for
current member lists with more than 700 addresses. News feeds will not produce such an expediture of time
because the recipient is responsible for the request by his own. Thus also the possibility of malpractice
can be minimized.
