New projects: Lime kiln, spillway (26.02.2005)
The set of exemplary projects to demonstrate the fields of activity was extended:
- The project "Plants / Silos / Lime kiln" was added. The lime kiln is part of a process engineering
plant for the production of quick lime and for sugar. The lime kiln is placed in San Pedro / Chile. San Pedro is
an area with extremely high earthquake accelerations, which are about 10 times the maximum values of germany.
The brick lining of the silo is attached on a circulating torsional ring, which is welded with the silo wall.
All statics were provided in English language, based upon the Chilean earthquake standard, the eurocode and
the DIN. You can find the appropriate page
here.
- The project "Plants / Channels / Spillway" was added. The spillways are placed inside of flood rooms
and drain to the river if the water level in the flood rooms exceeds the level of the spillways. When the river
has higher water the situation is reversed and the spillways drain from the river into the flood rooms. So there
are two situations to be calculated: Water filled spillway and empty spillway with bouyant forces.
The fe-calculation considered the nonlinear material law for stainless steel and the nonlinear geometry for the
postbuckling behaviour. The limit load was calculated also verifying the limit plastic strains of the material.
It could be shown that the limit load of the spillway is not exceeded with the plate buckling of the shells but
with the remarkable higher local buckling of the folded edges. You can find the appropriate page
